Mark and Clark Debate Resolved:The capitalist system is based on the exploitation of workers, who generate surplus value captured by the capitalists. Affirmative side: (the School of Scientific Communism, Karl Marx) Marx: I clearly indicated the Law of Motion of Capitalism: the capitalist system is based on the exploitation of workers, who generate surplus value that is captured by capitalists. My arguments are: (1) Capital profit arises from the extraction of surplus value (2) Workers only receive his/her exchange value (subsistence wage). I believed that capitalist system involved exploitation because it was unjust that the capitalists grabbed the surplus value created by the workers without making a reciprocal return to the workers. More precisely, this injustice was based on exploitation, or the extraction of surplus value from the workers. In the capitalist system, workers only sold their labour-power. The end of this action was only to satisfy the workersĄŻ subsistence wage. Capitalists owned and controlled the whole system of the processes of production. Workers were forced to produce surplus value, the source of capitalists' profits. Here, we might use a simple example to explain in the capitalist system the confusion about profit and productĄŻs value created by workers. Let us assume that there was a capitalist who had a small factory making bread. He bought two machines, and one was used to combine flour with yeast, the other was to bake bread. He hired three workers. Two workers separately operated two machines, and a third worker was in charge of sales. Every day, they could make three hundred loaves of bread. The capitalist traded two hundred loaves of bread to maintain production and make a profit. These four people equally distributed the remaining one hundred loaves of bread. Each person could gain the benefits of the sale of twenty-five loaves of bread. According to my surplus-value theory: Capital profit was completed created from exploiting their workersĄŻ surplus value. In this example, the capitalist not only exploited two hundred loaves of bread to cover production costs and make profit, but also took his share of twenty-five loaves of bread from those available to the workers. In the whole production progress, the workers used up their socially necessary labour time; however, the capitalist was doing no labour, but what he/she gained was much bigger than the gains of the workers.
