As Canadians we pride ourselves upon being a democratic nation, and yet as we have just entered the twenty-first century, it is apparent, that the Canadian Senate is in desperate need of reform. The Canadian motto states “Peace, Order and Good Government”, however when looking at the Senate, it is anything but Good Government. ... This makes for unequal representation within the Senate. ... There should be a fair voice within the Senate for each province or territory. ... Although the Senate can reject or defeat any bill approved by the House of Commons, it rarely does. When examining bills, Senators may point out the need for technical amendments, but when the government party has a majority in the Senate, the Chamber seldom seeks to modify the substance of proposed legislation.
