... The chapter we will be focusing on is titled ‘Radical Ideologies’ by Sandra Rein. As the title states, the chapter show us radical ideologies, primarily of the past two centuries that took root in society and have had a strong impact within those societies. ... He explains that the ruling class, referred to as the bourgeoisie, was able to maintain their ideas through the dominant ideologies in society. ... He states that the bourgeoisie, through manipulation and power, create ideologies that dominate in their favour and no in that of the greater majority. ... Many other theorist and political scientist felt the same way and believed that because of the way things were, the dominant ideologies separated the working class creating class division and inequality. ... The third section of the chapter looks at ideology through ‘modern’ eyes and analyzes the specific radical ideologies. Looking at the Latin origins of ‘radical’, we are basically looking at the ‘root’ of the problem. Thus, radical groups look to the root of the problem and wish to change the current standards. The ideologies discussed here are Marxism, Socialism, Anarchism, & Communism. ... The second radical ideology that we will look at is socialism. ... The final ideology that was considered radical and modern is communism. ... Be examining the concepts of ideology which are both negative and neutral as well each of the major modern radical political ideologies it is evident that the Marxism is one of the ideologies that can be related to today’s modern society. ... Our society is so materialistic that one needs to live and work hard to fit the dominant ideologies of class, power and respect. ... In conclusion by evaluating ideology as a negative and neutral concept as well as looking at modern radical political ideologies, we can see their signs in today’s societies. ... Even though ideas such ideologies discussed earlier were common in history the key concepts of such ideas still are around in today’s society. While many of the more radical ideologies did not necessarily thrive beyond the 20th century, it is important for us to remember such concepts and to use them to help us understand different groups. |
