A philosopher once said, “Everything is big in Texas.” This is statement has been made evident in the current redistricting battle that has brought focus on Texas from around the country (Roff 1). Prior to 2003, when asking a common citizen what redistricting is, they probably would not have known. Now when you ask them, they will bring up Texas and the current battle in the House of Representatives over redrawing the district maps. The issue of redistricting in Texas is a battle with many different disputes. ... The proponents say that current map does not do a good job of representing the voters (Texas 1). The opponents claim a new map does not need to be created every time the control of the House changes hands (Bearden 2), and the Republicans are using this only as an attempt to gain power (Texas 1). ...
