BILL SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS House Bill 509 Advisory Council on Obesity in Youth Sponsors: Delegates Stern, Barkley, Barve, Benson, Bobo, Boutin, Bromwell, Bronrott, Cadden, Cane, Cardin, V. Clagett, Costa, Donoghue, Feldman, Gaines, Goldwater, Gutierrez, Harrison, Holmes, Howard, Hubbard, Kirk, Krysiak, Lee, Mandel, Marriott, McHale, Morhaim, Murray, Nathan-Pulliam, Oaks, Owings, Pendergrass, Petzold, Rosenberg, Sophocleus, Taylor, V. Turner, Walkup, and Zirkin HB 509 establishes a state advisory council on obesity on youth to provide research and recommendations to the Maryland General Assembly. The purpose of this bill is to create a forum in which leaders in the state government, state administrative agencies, medicine, the food industry, and nonprofit agencies can research, discuss, and publicize strategies to prevent and/or reduce obesity in Maryland’s children, and then present their findings to the governor and general assembly for legislative action.
