The RED face of Redfern. ...
Residents and politicians are skeptic about the proposed Redfern, Eveleigh and Darlington (RED) Strategy Planning Framework which the State government promises will “focus on improving the physical environment and strengthen the local economy”. Clover Moore, Member for Bligh and a part of the Redfern-Waterloo Partnership Project views the RED Scheme as merely a front for high scale redevelopment which effectively will “cash in” on public land, and overlook important social problems in the area.
The RED Strategy plans to integrate the development of the area around the Australian Technology Park, the Redfern Shops, “the Block”, Redfern Station and the TNT Towers. Within the Redfern, Eveleigh and Darlington area there are large public land holdings, including many Public Housing Schemes. ...
In the rush to redevelop the RED area, the RED proposal ignores heritage issues, such as the Railway Heritage at the Australian Technology Park, North Eveleigh and Redfern Railway Station.
