“Lord of the Flies” is a fantastic novel expressing the true and evil nature of the human race. ... Of the boys, however, was one keen individual by the name of Simon. ... If one wishes to make a comparison, Simon is the Christ of the bible, and the boys, the evil working against him with all their might.
When first the group landed on the island, Simon was an insignificant, timid figure. ... Much was the attitude of Jesus Christ. ... Jesus Christ had found a solution to their problems and that solution was to turn to their hearts and to find God the Father Almighty. ... Simon lingered apart from the spotlight, until, he discovered that by believing in his conscience and all that he had been taught, he could evade the madness possessing the remainder of the boys on the island. ... Simon not only saw the good, but the evil that waited just around the psychological corner in everyone’s mind.
When Simon finally decided to proclaim his idea as to the fear gripping the island to the assembly, he received only jeering and ridicule. ... The choir leader, Jack, took a particular offense to the statement made by Simon. He made Simon feel as though he was insignificant and that he was a crazy child with no sense. Simon could no longer express his thoughts on mankind’s essential illness, evil.
One may compare Jesus’ lashing out at the temple much like the announcement of Simon’s sudden insight. ... But Simon, like Christ, would not permit the boys to be lost to their selfish, impetuous, sightless fate. ...
The choir on the island is quite similar to the powerful figures opposing Christ in his struggle to save the world from a life of eternal suffering.
