The Games For us, people of the 21st century, it is difficult to understand why such religious people would enjoy such terrible games. However the Pompeiians religion was much different to ours of today. Religion today tries to promote non-violence, where as the Pompeiians believed their gods or goddesses did not reward goodness and punish evil, but if these people did as the gods wanted then they would be rewarded.
