An Open Letter To The Parish Family Of St. John the Evangelist Dear Fellow Parishioners, There has been a great deal of misinformation given out in reference to the closing of St. John’s School. ... In the past we had a Parish Council and a School Board that regularly reviewed the finances of the Parish and School. ... When the Reverend Thomas Coby became Pastor, sweeping changes were instituted in how the finances of the Parish and School were handled. ... The methods used to determine the School’s finances are unknown. ... It is alleged that the current School deficit is approximately $500,000. This figure is quite astounding considering that as of the beginning of the 2000-2001 school year; there was no school deficit. ... In addition, the 7th and 8th grades were eliminated, 1/3 of the teaching staff was laid off, tuition was raised 40%, and the after-school program went from $30 per week to $140 per week. It was also mandated that all school families contribute a minimum of $300 per year to the Parish in addition to the new higher tuition. |
