Our society today focuses on the importance of self, basically doing what will make you feel good. The media bombards us with images that convince us that if we buy this product or that we will be happy. Movies show a man and woman meeting and then immediately jumping into bed together because it will make them happy. Even our past president showed the world that great men have needs that are above morals. It is very difficult to find a strong role model today for young people to benchmark. Peer pressure to please yourself without regard to how your actions hurt others is rampant. Today you can profess that you are homosexual or living out of wedlock, but as a Christian, you have to be careful what you say about your religious beliefs in public. Not only do you face the chance of being ridiculed for your beliefs, but also you could easily face legal action. It is a wonder why our society is blind to the cause of higher crime and divorce rates let alone outright lack of consideration and respect from the young people as a whole. The Bible was written thousands of years ago, but it was written to be timeless. It was to be the blueprint to follow to lead a good life. When society begins to re-interupt the meaning of the Bible or to forbid its message from public display, that society will begin to suffer the consequences. Our country was formed as a melting pot of different religious cultures. I believe in tolerance and respect of beliefs of others, but that has been twisted in our country today. You have the right to burn a flag or cross because it is hard to prove that you are intentionally trying to intimidate a specific group, but a school can face charges because they as a group wish to say a prayer or the pledge of allegiance.
