Describe the teachings of Christianity about the sanctity of life in relation to abortion

There are many different views under the wide scope of Christianity beliefs on the idea of aborting children before birth.
They vary widely from the strictly orthodox Roman Catholics who strongly believe that it is wrong to kill any human being and that you will be punished for it; right through to the other end of the scale where Quakers are more open about the idea, and believe that all situations are diverse and so some people therefore have a right to do with their body and child as they wish, especially if either the mother or child may be in harm.
There is no direct teaching about abortion in the Bible however Genesis 1: 27 states that ‘God created man in his own image… male and female he created them’ showing that every human being is part of the Lord and life should not be destroyed. ... This lead on to the fact that life is a sacred and wonderful gift from the Lord as proven in ‘children are a reward from Him’ – Psalm 127:3.
All life is sacred and valuable for two reasons, the first being due to everyone being created in God’s image and therefore it would be blasphemous for a Christian to harm or destroy this image of their Lord. The second reason is that all life is a gift from God and so to again ruin that gift is showing Him disrespect and not following his rules.
