Does Ninian Smart Privilege?

In Ninian’s Smart’s book, World Views; Crosscultural Explorations of Human Beliefs, he looks at all the major forces of beliefs that influence the world. Through the process of structured empathy, which is trying to sympathize and feel the emotions and beliefs of others, Smart tries to help his readers understand many worldviews, not just the traditional religions. However, Smart is unsuccessful in providing a purely descriptive analysis in World Views because I believe he privileges larger, textual, and more contemporary religions over others.
It is quite evident throughout the reading of his book that Smart comes from a western, Protestant, Christian background (Discussion Section 6, 9- 5- 03). There are many instances in the text when Smart makes references or uses examples of Christian history, the Bible, and Christ. ...
