The question posed is a complicated one and attains a truly individual answer from every ethical view. To be good has also many definitions, so any must definition of good must be accepted so each case can be fully stated and understood. There are many kinds of ethical perspectives from which this question can be viewed and I shall attempt to explore them. For Deontologists it is the intention or motive which informs actions which should be considered. If we approach the question of why be good with the Deontological belief then they would simply state, “Do it because God says so”. This is called Divine Command Ethics, as God’s command is obligatory and absolute.
