Rene Descartes born March 31, 1596 in Touraine, France is known as the modern founding father of Philosophy. Descartes was a devoted Catholic although had skepticisms concerning the philosophical and theological beliefs of the church. Descartes was first educated at Jesuit College where he excelled in mathematics but also was confused between rational reasoning and his faith. Descartes furthered his education by then moving to Paris, he also enlisted in the army during the thirty years war. ... Although, this did not disturb Descartes he was very intrigued and motivated to learn and share his beliefs with other. Descartes moved to Holland for twenty years mainly living in seclusion to write about his rationalisms. In 1649 Descartes was summoned by the Queen of Sweden, who wished to study philosophy by under his supervision. Through Descartes life he wrote many works, of the most well known being “Discourse on Method; Meditations on First Philosophy”, and “The Passions of the Soul” Rene Descartes composed a proposal leading to Gods existence based on rationalism, method of doubt, and his process of doubt.
Descartes was an epistemological rationalist, meaning that most all human knowledge is innate. ...
