football in 2002/3

Sedra synopsis Shabbat Shalom to you all! Today’s sedra Ki Thavo concludes the body of laws contained in the book of Deuteronomy. It starts by laying down a requirement for the declaration of ‘first fruits’. This is to be recited by every Jewish farmer once a year following the harvest of the first fruits of the soil. Each man is required to take a basket of the fruits to a priest in Jerusalem and recite the declaration set out in the sedra, which refers to the previous history of the Jews. An interesting point about this declaration which starts with the sentence “My father was a wandering Aramean and he went down into Egypt and lived there, few in number; and he became there a nation, great, mighty and populous” is that this very passage is quoted and explained in the Haggadah.
