... So if God has this ability to control our future, how is it that we have free will? Or do we simply not poses free will? Some people will argue that we do not have free will since God is omniscient and omnipotent. Others will argue that we do have free will, despite the fact that God is omnipotent and omniscient. But how is it possible to have free will and at the same time be controlled by something else? I don’t think it’s possible for God to be omnipotent and omniscient and at the same time for us to have free will, because God would be able to know exactly what we are going to do, and he has the ability to change our actions. By definition, free will is the ability to choose unhindered by anyone or anything. Taking God’s abilities to know what we are going to choose and to change our choices into consideration, we have to come to the conclusion that God’s omnipotence and omniscience are not compatible with free will. ... Augustine addresses this issue and his response is that we do have free will, even though God is omnipotent and omniscient.
