This vow of complete sexual restraint was taken by Gandhi in 1906, and was for the sake of “better dedication to the service of the country,” I think this was an incredible thing to commit to. To say you are going to abstain is one thing, but to vow to not even think of sex seems a little ridiculous to me. ...
The reason that Gandhi took this vow was so self-less that it shows his devotion to ahimsha. I think that he took this vow without thinking of benefits to himself in mind.
