Historiographical Essay

While social stratification is not being debated as often as it was in our past, it is still a menacing problem facing millions of Americans daily. Why should we debate social stratification when every American is given the same chance to succeed as the next? Could it be that possible that social class still plays an important factor in everyday life? Hell no, we live in the United States of Freedom, the twentieth century, the land of opportunity, class segregation had to have ended when women and blacks were granted the rights to vote, right? Well quite possibly that could be correct, according to the wealthiest 5 percent of Americans out there. While in fact class segregation, social stratification, or structured castes, whatever you want to call them, still play a determining role in today’s society. Long before our fathers, and even their fathers, social stratification played a part in every day life. From determining who governs the colony to who picks up the trash after a town meeting. This is a fact of life, and luckily with our great government and our equal and fair schooling system this injustice has been noted and discussed with every student who passes through the halls of our American schooling system.
