The word ¡°ghost¡± symbolizes the worriment that Clifton has over the unpaid debts and lacks of care. Near the end of the poem, Clifton is seeking for closure because both parents are now rest-in-peace. He is dangerous to her, because the father couldn¡¯t provide enough care for his family. He is a lecher, who probably abuses his wife, and caused the early death of the mother.
