A recent letter to the editor in the Sturgeon Bay, WI, newspaper "The Advocate" was entitled, "War is not Christ-like." The short letter said, "If we are truly a nation under Christ, war can never be our counsel, let alone our compulsion. ‘...a soft tongue can break hard bones.’ Proverbs 25:15" (See October 11, 2002 issue) Presumably, the letter was in opposition to our nation’s President’s seeming obsession for going to war with Iraq. Whether such a war would be a "just war" and one in which true Christians could participate is certainly a question worthy of discussion; but simplistic generalities based upon only one passage and upon false premises will never really settle the issue. In the first place, except for the reality that Christ, as God, is over all things, and that all nations will one day have to answer to him, our nation today makes no pretense about being under Christ.
