The Letter to the Colossians is an epistle believed to have been authored by the apostle Paul while he was imprisoned in Rome. The letter is addressed to the citizens of the city of Colossae and it was intended that the letter be read by the churches at Laodicea and Hierapolis, nearby cities. In the letter, the author praises the Colossians new found faith in Christ but warns them against the danger of falling into false religious teachings. The following is an introduction and background discussion of the letter. ... Paul wrote the Letter to the Colossians to address the issues that Epaphras had brought to his attention. ...

The letter gives a clear portrayal of Paul’s image of Christ. ... The letter deals mostly with the aspects of the gospel that were threatening the Colossian church. ... The early sections of the letter include a thanksgiving for the Colossians’ faith and continue with a prayer that this faith will continue to grow both in relationship with God and practical living (Colossians 1; 9-11). ...
