Another reason marriage seems to be popular around the world is because it helps solve many problems found in societies such as how to share the products of gender division labor, how to minimize sexual competition, and how to care for infants. Anthropologists find that as long as there is a division of labor by gender, a society needs marriage as the mechanism to share the product of that labor. (Ember 158-178) In Uganda marriage is basically an alliance between two people who will be responsible for providing for each other and sharing their individual wealth.
