ABSORPTION SPECTRUM OF PLANT PIGMENTS INTRODUCTION How do chlorophyll pigments affect the photosynthesis process? Chlorophyll is the most abundant chemical pigment found in plants that absorbs energy from sunlight and uses it to drive photosynthesis (Campbell et al., 2000). Photosynthesis (which uses energy from sunlight) is the most important chemical process on Earth, for it provides the food supply for virtually all organisms—plants, animals, proteins, fungi, and bacteria (Campbell et al., 2000).
