NUTRITION- The food for life. FOLIC ACID The role of folic acid in your diet is to help make DNA and RNA in your cells. This vitamin is important in the production of red blood cells and energy production in your body. Some benefits of Folic acid are that it helps with depression and anxiety and helps prevent heart disease, stroke and cancer. When a deficiency occurs you maybe called anaemic and may have some vitamin b12 deficiency and even get early grey hairs! And the making of DNA is stopped or slowed down, the red blood cells and cells in the intestine are affected first, and this then causes anaemia The recommended dietary intake of folic acid is; 0.4mg per day 0.6mg per day for pregnant women But you must not have more than 1mg per day, as you can’t tell if you are vitamin B12 deficient if you do because folic acid hides this vitamin B12.
