When people here the phrase chemical engineering the first thing that pops into there mind is a person or a group of people who produce a product using various types of chemicals, but really chemical engineering is a lot more then that. The dictionary describes chemical engineering as “the branch of engineering that deals with the technology of large-scale chemical production and the manufacture of products through chemical processes.” Chemical engineers are responsible for converting scientific discoveries into viable products. This basically means that they change the substance by means of Chemical and physical process. Chemical engineering is a very large area of study and has to do with all things in life, one way or another. These are areas involving design, research, chemical production, construction and the operation of industrial plants. ... Oxidation, evaporation and polymerization are other areas that chemical engineers focus on, which contribute to the preservation of air, soil, and water pollution. Chemical engineers develop manufacturing equipment, new manufacturing processes and analyze automated procedures in factories, which cuts back on the processing time and costs. ... Chemical Engineers try and be environmentally friendly, but some times with the development of chemical weapons and chlorofluorocarbons (emitted from structures that Chemical Engineers have designed), have repercussions on the environment. ... The chemical Engineers here are responsible for many things such as designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining industrial equipment. On average, Chemical Engineers work an eight to twelve hour workday, and a 40 – 50 hour work week, where evening, and weekend work is uncommon. ...
