The state of the electricity system in the United States, while not totally in shambles, definitely leaves room for improvement, as many people realized during the blackout of 2003 when much of the northeast United States, as well as some of Canada lost power. An effective solution to this problem would be to increase the amount of energy produced by nuclear power plants. ... While there has been an increase in the amount of energy in the United States coming from nuclear power, it is still greatly underutilized. Because nuclear energy is more economical than all other energy sources, it should be the primary source in the United States.
A major selling point of nuclear energy is its safety. ... Other energy sources produce gases which contribute to the depletion of the ozone, as well as cause acid precipitation. In addition, nearly every year Americans hear about fatal accidents involving the other sources of energy.
