The purpose of this lab was to investigate the effects of the driving force controlling the frequencies of the dominant and recessive traits. In this experiment beans were used to represent the gene pool of a population of deer mice. The dark colored chips represented a dominant trait, while the lighter colored chips represented a recessive trait. We modeled the random mating of adult deer mice by randomly selecting beans out of a bag, which represented alleles in a population. In successive simulations, we modeled the effects of the predation of wolves upon individuals from thel rabbit population.
