Effects of caffeine on reaction time

Aim: To investigate the effect of caffeine on a person’s reaction time.
Hypothesis: I predict that caffeine will decrease a person’s reaction time by a very noticeable amount. I believe that the more caffeine a person consumes, the shorter their reaction time will be. ...
Prediction: The reaction time will decrease because of the increase of speed of neurotransmitters in the body. The presence of caffeine in a person’s body increases the levels of calcium along the nerve synapse. There is a decrease in reaction time because neurotransmitter substances need calcium to be released. ... Caffeine speeds up this process – thus lowering reaction time.
Here is a diagram to show what happens in a synapse:
Safety: The only way to test the effects of caffeine on a person is to give them adequate doses of it. However, it is important to take care because caffeine has different effects on the body – some of which are very dangerous. Caffeine increases heartbeat, respiration, metabolic rate and the production of stomach acid and urine. The effects vary among people and may depend upon the person’s sensitivity to this drug, their metabolism or upon whether the drinker rarely has caffeine.
