Is there a specific gene that makes one athlete able to perform better than another athlete? What I did find was a lot of information on the subject of gene doping, I found that athletes have been using enhanced genes and directly injecting themselves to exceed there genetic capabilities, sounds like science fiction right, but it’s not. ... to any NBA, NFL, or, Track and Field event, you can clearly see that these sports are dominated by black athletes. ... On the other hand people of sub-Saharan ancestry comprise of 12 percent of the worlds population and they disproportionately represent the top athletes in sports which require running, jumping, and endurance. ... Saltin also goes on to say “Very many in sports physiology would like to believe that it’s training, the environment, what you eat that plays the most important role, but we argue based on data that it is ‘in your genes’ whether or not you are talented or whether you will become talented…The basis is in the genes of these runners. ... One such theory that I got caught up in believing was that in a desperate need to escape poverty black athletes pursue sports and that’s why their drive is so much greater, this is one of the classic arguments. ... To me this was pretty disappointing if you are going to write a book you should stick to your guns not and not sway towards the other side, because to me his point is that yes the potential to be a great athlete is there at birth because of genes, but it’s only through hard work and some luck that they can accomplish it.
