Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy on the 15 February 1564 to parents Vincenzo Galilei and Giulia deglie Ammannati. Galileo was the oldest of six children. Galileo’s family moved to Florence when he was young, where he attended a nearby Jesuit monastery school. In 1588 Galileo entered the university of Pisa where for the he would study for the next four years. ... It is during this time, at age 20, that Galileo began his study of the pendulum. While sitting in a Cathedral, Galileo noticed a lamp swinging overhead and was curious of find out how long it took to swing back and forth. ...
In 1559 Galileo left university without a degree and returned to his family in Florence where he began tutoring mathematics in order to earn a living. ... Galileo also started pursuing a position of the mathematics faculty at a major university, his life’s ambition. However, Galileo had already offended the very people who would choose candidates for vacancies.
