Impotratnce of maps

When going on vacation one usually goes to places one has “heard” of, but this map almost communicates a subliminal message of “seeing” places and then going to them. The purpose of this map is to provide tourists with visualization of landmarks--hotspots in the greater Los Angeles area--to create a unique approach to map reading and to get people to spend their vacation time and most importantly their money in Los Angeles. The author, Unique Media Maps, does a good job pulling one into the city of Los Angeles. This map is very child-like as it represents a place full of fun, blue skies, and sunshine. When one looks at this map one almost forgets the millions of people, the traffic, and the smog. This city must have it all—mountains, beaches, community, golf courses, sun, professional sporting events, amusement parks, and of course Hollywood where one is sure to see a few stars. However, when one has been lost on the Los Angeles freeways and ended up in the projects of East L.A.
