Linear Algebra Terminology
M x N matrix = M rows by N columns
Augmented matrix = consists of the coefficient matrix with an added column containing the equation values (the “= value” part as well as the expression)
Consistent = has at least one solution
Inconsistent = has no solution
If the last row of an augmented matrix has a “0=5”, the matrix (and solution set) has no solution)
Unique = only one solution exists for a given set of equations
If there are free variables, then the system is not unique (in fact, it has infinite solutions).
