Objective: The object of this project was to determine the identification of an unknown impure compound. Recrystallization of the impure unknown was used to purify the compound so that melting point could be used for the identification of the unknown. Experimental Method: Determination of a suitable solute. A small amount of the unknown was placed into several solutes to determine what would be a suitable solution to dissolve the unknown. A small sample of the unknown was placed in cold water and did not dissolve.
