One of the most important features of a large group of crustaceans is the occurrence of larval forms. The development of crustaceans is either direct or indirect. ... Larval forms are met with in the case of small eggs with metamorphosis and hatching takes place during different stages of development. Few important larval forms are described below:
Nauplius larva : Nauplius larva is egg-shaped and unsegmented. ... In crustaceans like Branchiopods the larva metamorphoses directly into adult while in the majority of crustaceans it metamorphoses into adult with several intermediate stages like metanauplius, protozoaea, zoaea, cypris, mysis etc. ... In crabs the nauplius is passed in the egg, it hatches as zoaea which by moulting forms the megalopa stage which passes into the adult.
