Light Absorbtion Characteristics of Chlorophyll
Introduction:
Energy from the sun arrives on earth in the form of light energy. Autotrophs such as plants and many single celled organisms can convert light energy into chemical energy in the process of photosynthesis. ... The most common and important of these photosynthetic pigments is called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs violet, blue, and red light- the wavelengths of light that provide energy for photosynthesis. Chlorophyll does not absorb green light but rather reflects it that is why most plants look green. ... They are soluble in most strong alcohol solvents such as acetone the specific light absorbing qualities of chlorophyll can be determined using a device called spectrophotometer.
