Introduction Anywhere that things are purposely grown, fertilizers are very common to use. There are positive and negative effects of using fertilizers. When a farmer has good intensions of using his fertilizer to help crops and plants grow, he may not realize the terrible effect it can have if the chemicals run off into nearby streams or in the underground water supply. Fertilizer run off can be very damaging to the environment. Farmers also want to be economically smart when it comes to the amount of fertilizer used the effectiveness of that amount. They don’t want to use less then they need and they don’t want to use more than they need and end up loosing money from wasted run-off fertilizer. Some fertilizers and pest control chemicals can be greatly "over applied", which can harm or "burn" the crops or plants. Fertilizers and chemicals can make the soil hard for plants to grow in.
