Objective: The objective of this lab is to investigate the laws of momentum and kinetic energy using two distinct experimental methods: Projectile motion and Ballistic Pendulum reactions. Results: Tables 1, 2, and 3 are attached. Discussion: Our results throughout this lab seem very accurate. The exceptions to this absolute success are the results of the short range projectile and ballistic pendulum results. While we only experienced a 1.6%-1.7% drop in momentum in the long and medium range projectile tests the short range was resoundingly higher at 9.4%. This is significantly out of place. Perhaps the apparatus performs best when on medium and long range. There may in fact be an ideal positioning of the spring. Perhaps on the lower spring pressure setting ‘short range’ the energy exerted by the spring has more trouble compensating for the friction of the surrounding system. In the groupings during the projectile test, the short range XZ area was far larger than the long range area. The shorter the projectile distance the more small errors in the final distance affect the final result and error.
