One of the research areas to find a material to replace silicon has been to find molecular scale transistors where the molecules are responsible for transistor activity which is switching and amplifying electrical signals. In order to cope up to that demand Bell Labs scientists Hendrik Schon, Zhenan Bao and Hong Meng have now fabricated molecular-scale organic transistors, made out of compounds of carbon, which can rival silicon transistors in performance.
