Oppenheimer Effect
The Oppenheimer effect is an interesting phenomenon discovered by Oppenheimer et al. [1] in the late 1950s. It was discovered that plastic films embedded in the abdominal walls of rodents (rats and mice) had a significant tumorigenic potential even though these materials were thought to be noncarcinogenic. When the same materials (plastics) were embedded as powders or in a dispersed form, there was far less tumor formation.
