The Moon has played a historical role in our world. For example, the length of one month is based on the phases of the moon. The phases of the moon are caused by the reflection of light from the Sun and the rotation of the moon on its axis. From Earth, we see different shapes depending on the angle at which the moon is facing us.
In the past, the moon has been used to tell time and is now currently the focus of many religious practices. However the exact definition of the moon is unknown. The moon is spherical, with a diameter of 3476 km. ...
There are seven different shapes or phases of the moon. There is the New Moon, the Waxing Crescent, the Half Moon, the Waxing Gibbous, the Full Moon, the Waning Gibbous, and the Waning Crescent. Each phase can be observed from Earth and is caused by the different positions of the moon.
As the moon orbits around the Earth, it also rotates on its axis. As it orbits around the Earth the moon changes positions and the amount of light that reaches the Earth’s surface through reflection changes. Furthermore, according to the Moon’s position on the orbit, we on Earth observe different shapes.
