THE PLASMA MEMBRANE
ok basicly what the membrane does is it separtes the cells contents from its
environment. ... the palsma
membrane is selectivly permeable so its ‘picky’ an example of this would be
a tea bag. ... well the phospholipid
bilayer is made up of two things :phosphate and fatty acid the phosphate
is polar meaning it can disolve in water and it is hydrophilic which means it is
H2O loving the lipid (fatty acid) is non polar which means is will not
dissolve in water it is hydrophorbic so it is H2O fearing a way of
remembering that is looking at phorbic like phobia it means fear
<---- head (phosphate)(polar)
<----tail (lipid (fatty acid)) (non polar)
clolesterol are embedded in the bilayer to (1) restrict movement of phoshorids
and (2) make the membrane strong and flexible
OOOOOXOOOOOXOOOO in this pic.
