Sunny on Venus
The rain pattered against the windowpane, forcing me out of bed. I looked at the stormy Venus sky through my window, and watch lightening dance across the sky for a moment. It was almost evening of that day and the sun would appear for about four earth-cycles above the eastern horizon before the dark part of day would begin. But during those four earth-cycles a magnificent carnival was to be held, a festival of light; everyone got school and work off to enjoy the time in the sun. I was to do a report for school on why there were only a few dry earth-cycles a day, and I had been awake for the entire sleep period waiting for the sun. I had never seen the sun before—mainly because I had been sick for the first days of my life—and anticipated the first. This was also the day I had my birthday twice in one year (since our years are shorter than our days they sometimes overlap) I was to be 19 days old (a little over 11 in earth years).
