Scavenger Hunt
Pat Shipman, the author of this article, explains about people¡¯s common thought on the early hominid hunters. Even though we have found out many of stone tools from fossils, we need more evidence to prove it. In the late 1970s, Author started to study the small damages on fossil bones that caused by the surrounding environment. By his study, Pat Shipman found some stone-tool markings from Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania, and Koobi Fora, Kenya. This means that early hominids were hunter, but author suggests that early hominids might be scavengers, because the stone-tool cut marks also appear with the tooth marks of carnivores.
