Theoretically, the techniques that had already been used to clone sheep, cows, monkeys and other animals, can be adapted to produce humans. Until late-2002, no researcher had claimed to be able to produce an actual human baby. Since then, although there have been some statements that human cloned babies have been born, these claims have not so far been proved in accordance with normal scientific practice. Successes in the early stages of human cloning have been reported, however, notably by US company Advanced Cell Technology (ACT) in an on-line scientific journal called "e-biomed: The Journal of Regenerative Medicine" in November 2001. Similar claims have been made before, but this was the first time that a group with a long track record in cloning techniques published its results. As well as the few experiments that have been reported, it is possible that others are taking place in secret in several countries.
