Stress & the College Students
Stress can be defined as a state of minor to extreme difficulty, pressure or strain. Id say this definition describes what every college student feels at one point or another in their life. I know its what I felt these past few months and my college career has only begun. But, what is it that causes so much stress in college students, and more importantly, what ways can we manage stress without letting it manage us? It is important as students that we understand the causes and effects of stress because stress can have dangerous consequences if not dealt with properly.
Feeling stress is not detrimental in itself. So, before condemning stress outright, we need to understand that stress is only harmful when it is excessive. Much of the stress we all experience can help us during the day. Leaving home, commuting to classes, managing finances, loving with roommates and juggling jobs, classes, and relationships all contribute tot he normal stress of being at a University. ... In addition, stress can also come from exciting or positive events. ... All these challenges tend to be stressful and an attempt to avoid stress completely would lead to a boring existence.
