There is hardly an area of life today that has not been touched by silicon chip technology. ... It is almost impossible to go through one day without using or observing something that is controlled by millions of tiny computerised chips. This article will explore what a silicon chip is, its history, where we find silicon chips today and the effect they’ve had on our society. It will also investigate the direction of the silicon chip in the future.
“The development of the silicon chip revolutionised the computer industry.” [1] The silicon chip had it’s beginnings in Silicon Valley in the 1950’s when Intel Corp created the first microprocessor computer. Once the chip was created it replaced bulky transistors and from this time on silicon chip manufacturers have been creating more impressive and smaller chips. As resources to create silicon chips decrease in price manufacturers must keep up with demand from both consumers and the technological push to create better products.
