For centuries, fiction authors have tried to theorize what traveling through time would be like. However, it was not until recently that physicists have been able to explore the intricacies of time travel functioning practically. ... Before time travel could be understood; however, time and the space-time continuum have to be defined. The Webster’s English Dictionary describes time as a “limited stretch or space of continued existence, as the interval between two successive events” (time). Since the dictionary definition of time seems to be incomplete, we are able to relate to, Pulitzer-Prize winning astronomer, Carl Sagen’s opinion describing his view of time in a PBS interview as something that is “resistant to simple definition”. Despite what experts say, most people view time by looking down at their wristwatches slowly counting the passing seconds. Regardless of definition, opinion and perspective, time cannot be touched or seen; we can only observe the effects of it. The evidence that we are moving through time is found everywhere; our bodies age, trees grow and buildings are built and crumble. We can also feel the pressure of time when we are pushed to meet deadlines and our lives are dictated by the amount of time we have to accomplish our goals. That is why time, by Einstein, was looked at to be the fourth dimension (Sagen).
