(1998, Winter) “Class Formation and composition in Elementary Schools” American Educational Research Journal, v35 n4 p739-72 “This study examined the class formation procedures used in 22 elementary schools from two districts, as well as the influence these procedures had on the total class composition of 200 classes, 56 of which were combination classes (classes with students from tow grade levels).” Principals were interview about their individual procedures used in assigning student to classes.
