a Passage to India
I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. As a little girl like most children in kindergarten, I remember reciting these words even though I did not quite understand what they meant. I also still bear in mind like most Americans, dreaming of becoming a doctor, a teacher, and at some time or another a policeman. Although I was just a child and did not quite understand that all of the following helped shape America, these were the earliest ideas I possessed in my mind, that I did have a duty to help contribute to my country.
