Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” Summary In Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech, “I Have a Dream”, he presents the problem, one hundred years after the Emancipation Proclamation was written, of African-Americans and their current segregations and discriminations received from whites. Although they hoped they would receive justice from the Emancipation Proclamation, the society still holds Negros as not free. King compares the promises made in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence to a check that guarantees the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
